EMPLOYMENT AS A RIVER GUIDE WITH
OREGON WHITEWATER ADVENTURES
We are now accepting applications for full and part-time guides from both experienced and new guides. If you have never guided professionally, you should attend a guide workshop to understand the demands and skills needed to be a commercial guide.
Experienced Guides
Please Email or mail us a cover letter and resume. Please include a separate “river log” detailing where and for whom you have worked and in what capacity, contact information for each previous company, and supervisor is essential, and reason for leaving.
Beginning Guides
Oregon Whitewater Adventures offers a hands-on clinic that specializes in paddle captaining. Our school will teach practical skills such as reading currents, guiding rafts, rowing skills, raft setup and rigging, river safety and water rescue. In addition, we will cover knot tying, throw bags, equipment maintenance and repair, Dutch oven cooking, and planning a safe and enjoyable river trip.
Our philosophy at OWA is to create an atmosphere of support, fun, and acceptance, while building self-esteem and inspiring confidence and personal responsibility. This clinic is excellent preparation for both commercial guiding and rafting on one’s own.
Training is on the McKenzie, North Umpqua, and Deschutes rivers, rivers that we offer commercially. Due to river flows and other variables, the rivers on which we teach are subject to change. Personal gear such as tents and sleeping bags are not included.

Dates for our six-day workshops are March 23 - 28, and June 16 - 21. Our three weekend workshop is May 17 - 18, 24 - 25, and May 31 - June 1, 2008.
The price of $495 includes all transportation fees from OWA, food on overnight trips, safety equipment, personal instruction and handouts. For more information and reservations for the workshop, contact Dave at 541-746-5422.
Participants of all experience levels are welcome. River guides need to complete a First Aid and CPR course. Basic First Aid is the minimum requirement. Advanced First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, or Swift Water Rescue are recommended but not required.
